Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that is loved all over the world for its creamy, sweet and coffee-flavored layers. The name “tiramisu” means “pick-me-up” or “lift-me-up” in Italian, which perfectly describes the taste and experience of this delicious treat. Here is a traditional recipe for tiramisu that you can make at home.
Ingredients:
6 egg yolks
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 1/4 cup of mascarpone cheese
1 cup of heavy cream
1 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee, cooled
1/2 cup of Marsala wine (or any sweet liqueur)
1/4 cup of cocoa powder
2 package of ladyfingers
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture and mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
- Mix together the cooled coffee and Marsala wine in a shallow dish.
- Dip the ladyfingers into the coffee mixture, making sure they are well-soaked but not falling apart.
- Line the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish with the ladyfingers. Spread 1/3 of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Dust the top with cocoa powder, using a fine sieve.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
When you are ready to serve, your Tiramisu will be set and ready to go, you could add some cocoa powder or chocolate shavings for a better presentation.
Keep in mind that this recipe is a classic one, but you can adapt it by changing the liqueur for something you prefer, or even making a variation with fruits like strawberries or blueberries. You could also make it gluten-free by using gluten-free ladyfingers.
Enjoy your homemade tiramisu and take a taste of the sweet and creamy Italian tradition.
